This guitar can be said to be the symbol of SUGIZO, and it is still fresh inour memories from the "BRAND NEW CHAOS" tour of 2000.This guitar which gives a silver glow on stage is the 4th of the S-IBRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- series, and it was used in "THE FINAL ACT" of 2000 in ROSIER,IN MY DREAM, Deja vu, JESUS, TIME IS DEAD, etc. This was made in 1998 during the recording of the album "SHINE". This wasaround the time ECLIPSE changed to through neck from set neck, and thepick-up changed from Lace Sensor to the Jaguar pick-up.This guitar actually has a hidden history behind it. It was originally made as the prototype for S-I with a Jaguar pick-up, and because of the good sound quality, it was SUGIZO's favourite guitar. And so this guitar was the guitar used in the "SHINING BRIGHTLY" tour as the main guitar, known as the 'black S-I'. As you can see in the picture below, a relatively wide hole for a Jaguar pick-up is used for the pick-up installment. This guitar was used as the main S-I until the 10TH ANNIVERSARY GIG "NEVER SOLD OUT" in May 1999, but was not used thereafter as the use of strat pick-up became dominant.
At the "Millennium Eve" at the Tokyo Dome on Dec. 23rd, the glory of being the main S-I was taken over by another S-I. From then on, the Jaguar pick-up was replaced by a strat pick-up, the guitar did not earn any spotlights on stage, and it started its days as a lonesome sub-guitar on the wings of the stage.
However, this guitar's life did not end there.

The 'brilliant-technique' of ESP
The back of the body of the main silver S-I. SUGIZO signed on his name himself in silver as a memorial of his ??th birthday.

June 2000. "PREMIERE of LUNACY 2000" at the Nihon Budoukan had finished,
and SUGIZO was in the middle of rehearsals for the "BRAND NEW CHAOS" tour. His schedule was harsh, as he not only attended the band's rehearsals, but also held his own rehearsals for the new pieces. A certain music stuido in the city was filled with an enormous amount of various gadgets of LUNA SEA, and the guitars and the basses for use in concerts were set up, having finished being adjusted by the technicians. However, this guitar was not among those, but belonged in one corner of SUGIZO's private rehearsal studio for him to practice the new pieces on. And one day, having finished his private practice and entering the rehearsal studio, he held this guitar in one hand and said to one of the staff "This guitar has good sound quality after all. Let's change this guitar to silver and use it in the coming tour." He made this decision as he was not content with the sounds he was getting from his silver S-I that he'd been using for his rehearsals.Sometime later on, this guitar has the 'brilliant-technique' put on it in the studio, and starts its second life as the silver S-I.

After its come-back to the front-line as the main silver S-I, this guitar carried out its duty as the main of the tour without disappointing SUGIZO,but the accident occurred on Aug. 2nd, on the first day of Osaka Castle Hall.In the middle of "TIME IS DEAD" when the concert was nearing its end, one of the strings snapped. The technician, Mr. Tsuji, immediately brought the sub-guitar to SUGIZO, and at the moment they were about to swap their guitars, the main silver S-I fell behind SUGIZO. Although the neck of ECLIPSE rarely breaks even when thrown, this time the guitar suffered a major injury with the head almost falling off completely. By the time the concert ended and the guitar reached the hands of the equiment staffs, the guitar was in such a miserable state that the head was hanging off the neck by the strings, and the truss rod was sticking out of the neck. The staffs prounounced the end of the guitar, and they taped the hard case with a cross, rested it in the corner of the tuning room, bowed to the guitar and left the room. However that night, some of the instrument staffs got called up by SUGIZO himself. SUGIZO was deeply disappointed by what happened to his main guitar, and requested strongly for the restoration of it. The staffs, moved by SUGIZO's passion, decided to fix the guitar. After this, as the tour continued on, the main guitar was carefully fixed, and as the result, this guitar was able to come back to the front-line yet again from the start of the "BRAND NEW CHAOS ACT II".

The Cracked Body side of S-I silver main.

The area for the pick-up was curved for the use of a Jaguar pick-up. There is a piece of rubber in between the front pick-up to prevent howling.
The guitar that raced through the year 2000. The black paint around the pick-up area has come off, and the vivid scars on the aluminium sheet of the body top tells of the violent picking during the gigs.

The deep traces of how it fought its way from the "SHINING BRIGHTLY" tour through to " THE FINAL ACT" can be seen on the back of the body.
The bridge is loaded with Chrome Parts' Original Floyd Rose.

Chrome Parts' GOTOH SG36 is used as the peg.The head is strangely clean as it was repaired when the neck broke.
The back area of the Floyd Rose bridge. As you can see, there are 3 springs in parallel, and a sponge is put in between to stop the springs from resonating.A 37mm middle block is used for the block.

The reason why there is a hole in the back panel of the control centre is for turning the adjusting trim for controlling the level of the front pick-up when mix-using the front and the rear pick-ups.Guitars, not only this particular one, are customised for achieving even better sound quality each time.(This format was at the time of April 2001.
